1954 Cadillac Series 62

1955 Cadillac Series 62

This is a Series 62, a model that was produced from 1940 until 1964. This specific body style was new for 1954, replacing the series before it, which was produced from 1948 - 1953. The 1954 model was designed by famed GM designer, Harley Earl. It was available in a two door hardtop (such as this one), four door and two door convertible. As expected, it is a heavy car, weighing in between 4,500 and 5,100 pounds. It is powered by a 331 cubic inch V8 engine, producing 230 horsepower with its four barrel carb. It has a four speed Hydra-Matic automatic transmission. Distinguishing features of this model include dual exhausts hidden in the rear bumpers, built in sun visors above the doors, “florentine” rear window, and hidden gas cap behind the rear turn signal lens.

This car was donated to the museum in March 2016. It belonged to one family since new, beginning service in Porterville in 1954. The family moved to Ventura County and the car was parked in an Ojai barn beginning in 1982. It was covered in the barn, under a single car cover, until it came to live in the museum. It is an absolute original, with under 100,000 miles.
