2012 Fisher Karma

The Fisker Karma was a hybrid automobile produced in 2012 by independent automaker Fisker Automotive of Uusikaupunki, Finland. The car was conceived by a Danish automotive industrial designer named Henrik Fisker, who also designed the BMW Z8 and Aston Martin DB9.

The car was a premium plug in range extended electric hybrid, and used a 2.0 liter turbocharged gasoline engine (supplied by GM), with two 120kw electric motors at the rear drive wheels. Battery range was rated at 32 miles with a combined gasoline/electric range of 230 miles. Torque at the drive wheels (combined) was rated at 958, with a horsepower rating of 403. Unique to this car, as compared to the successful Tesla, is that the battery packs run down the center of the car, to the left and right of passengers, ensuring that only a maximum of 4 passengers could ever be seated in this car (Tesla’s battery packs are underneath the vehicle).

Deliveries of the car began in November 2011 but suffered an early setback when Fisker’s sole battery supplier went bankrupt. Unable to find an alternate supplier, Fisker ceased production within a year, only producing 2,450 cars. Before too much longer, Fisker Automotive was bankrupt and their assets sold at auction. The new owners re-introduced the car in September 2016 as the Karma Revero.

This car was donated to the museum in December 2017 by the Woods Family of Malibu, California. It has a stunning exterior design and a highly refined interior, making it a true exotic luxury car. We are glad to have it as part of our permanent collection.
